Ann
Buxey-Jones joined the Gwent Guild of Weavers, Spinners &
Dyers when she retired to Wales. Initially she learned to
spin wool from sheep fleece and then to dye it. This led
to weaving tapestries using her hand spun, and hand dyed
wool. Eventually, she turned her talent to felt making, which
is another process using fleece from animals.
Ann is inspired by both colour and texture which is seen
in her soft, felt pictures. There are many breeds of sheep
providing natural colours—cream, beige, grey, dark brown,
etc. These colours are used to reflect the subtle hues seen
in our beautiful countryside. The fleece can be dyed and
Ann is happy to accept commissions for any colour scheme
to match a particular décor.
Ann's tapestries were selected for a National
Exhibition of the Weavers, Spinners & Dyers in the Bishop's
Palace of Wells Cathedral. Her work has been regularly displayed
at their Mid Wales Event at Llanidlois and recently at the
Museum of Welsh Life at St. Fagans, Cardiff.
NOTE: Please keep in mind that, due to differences in computer
monitors and cameras, colours are more vibrant in person.
